At Shajina Nrsing Home, we were again able to provide screening for patients who took time to come and learn about breast cancer and its early detection effects. The results of scanning were provided promptly.
We, NCARF, was at Medicolab Thrissur providing awareness and screening for the participating patients using iBreast exam. We were able to provide a better knowledge on breast cancer and the importance of early detection for better prognosis of the disease.
Our work on early detection of cancer did not stop even during COVID pandemic. We were active in associating with various labs for conducting screening camps for women. Amrita Wellness Labs, Oyoor, Kollam is currently active in conducting screening for this month (September 2020) for NCARF.
NCARF is at the initial phase of targeting the panchayat of Ernakulam district. Our first project in Kerala was a free cancer screening camp at Kunnathenadu Panchayat. This camp mainly addressed on breast and oral cancer screening. Out of the hundreds that showed up, few were detected with early signs of breast cancer and oral cancer. Our next step is to take these patients for a FNAC test or biopsy, and according to the results, we will direct them for treatment. We are planning to support all those who have been diagnosed with malignant tissues.
Our next project is proposed in Feb 2020 – Mega camp on Breast , Oral and Cervical screening in Alappuzha district. We are planning to conduct follow up for a period of 2 years. The approach in Alappuzha will be different, but there also we have to provide financial support for the patients. The area for which the project has been set is a below poverty line (BPL) populated area. Their awareness and screening have to work simultaneously for the project to become a big success.
Oral cancer is the 11th most common cancer among men in the world with an incidence rate of 2.6%. India accounts for one-fifth of all oral cancer cases. We are ready to fight oral cancer at the roots with an anti-tobacco movement and screening for oral cancer at early stages.
We have joined hands with Kairali Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist for our Oral Cancer Screening works.
We have trained staff to use the iBreast technology in detecting cancer at the early stages. Our methods are now being appreciated and encouraged by KeralaCan, state wide campaign that fights cancer. We have joined with KeralaCan for their this years' Screening projects. With our novel methods and the support of a beneficial organization, we are fighting cancer at the roots.
